Sipping Shots with Jesus

ESPRESSO PEOPLE ::: ESPRESSO
I anticipated starting off the day with a WIZARD LIST of 11 attributes for healthy churches and then decided who – was – I – kidding…. who really cares about 11 attributes… who really cares about a healthy church or THE NEXT CHURCH PLANT. Let’s talk about YOU + JESUS and a short black also called AN ESPRESSO!!
If you just peeled your eyelids and scraped the sleep out of your eyes then I suggest you have an espresso before we get moving. If you are already in your cubicle bored out of your mind then POW… PERFECT TIMING…. and of course if you are at home, listening to music in the background and simply clicking around the web for interesting stories….. THEN HERE YOU GO.
Let’s keep it plain and simple with Jesus. Toss out the “O Holy God” and repeating “Thank you Lord – Thank You Lord – Thank You Lord” every time you pray to Him. Think about how many times you say “Father God”, “Amen” and “Hallelujah”…. relate that to how you communicate with any of your friends or family. Do you get ALL HOLY WITH PERFECT VOICE INTONATIONS when you talk about the WEATHER, SPORTS OR WORK? Would sound something like this ::
Hey Bobby, Hallelujah, Thank you… so good to see you at work Brother in the Lord and faithful servant of the Lord…. O how blessed I am to have watched the Lakers … Amen…. Kobe was hallelujah …. well brother…. How majestic was thy sleep last night… so glorious, so glorious, so glorious…. what a game, what a game what a game what a game!!! ARE WE ON REPEAT :: ARE WE ON REPEAT ::
Jesus wants to HEAR YOU :: NOT SOME REGURGITATED prayer you heard your pastor or deacon in your church BLAST OFF about. He simply wants you, the good, the bad and the ugly. Now your saying but those people who pray seem to always acquire answered prayers. My response to that is… YES they may have some answered prayers but ARE YOU THEM?
:: CHALLENGE ::
Sit down and imagine what you would talk to Jesus about if he was sitting across from you sipping on an Espresso, or Latte, Mocha Frap, Machiatto or just drip coffee. He is looking at you, the steam from the coffee is rising and He is asking –YOU–, WHAT IS GOING ON? He is asking –YOU–, ARE YOU READY TO build His team? He is hanging out with –YOU– and completely interested in YOUR LIFE.
Are we praying to God in a SUPER HOLY way because we mirror many pulpits or leaders in our church? Do we pray this way because we think God will hear us better? Jesus clearly states to come unto me as little children and He will give you rest. Matthew 15:19

Perfect! Love it man. I’ve been trying to tell folks this. I even hate when people say “Lord” all the time… Who says that these days? Why don’t we just say something like “boss instead?”

I used to feel really self concious about praying out loud because I thought I had to sound all profound and talk funny. Thank you for writing and sharing this. It’s given me something to think about.

I agree in part that we should should not Hail Mary our way to heaven… However, usually when I’m with my friends or chums, I’m not untreated in praising their name or even thanking them for their undying devoting and love. I believe there is a fine line between fake humility and true love for Christ. It won’t fill forced or routine if it’s real…

I would say, “You’re who? This is a joke, right?” and then walk out with my latte untouched.

I would be so busy thanking Jesus for what he’s done in my life and just listening to him speak, that I would forget to ask anything. He turned my life upside down, inside out and then the right way up. After 28 years of praying for my husband, he gave his life over to the King of kings 2 months ago – without me saying a word.
If we were sitting across the coffee table from each other, I think I’d just be drinking in his face and voice and heart. I’m almost 60 and madly in love with Jesus after knowing him for 29 years.

Anthony, this was awesome! Straight, no chaser, with some cool lingo thrown in. I guess I need to read your work more often.

I would not address the great I AM the same way I would my friends. He is Holy and out of awe and respect to Him and all He has done for me, I speak reverently to Him, because He deserves it. He is my best friend, but I don’t want to bring Him down to a human level. It seems like you are trying to be to “hip” here forgetting “Be Holy, for I am Holy”.

totally agree with your stance concerning reverence. there are times when I write words which may appear to be not as conservative as others vernacular. Check this post, because it gives a bit more light on casual_ness. http://ihatechurch.com/2010/07/15/2-reasons-why-jesus-is-not-your-homeboy-2/
