Pursuit Of Love

I had an interesting chat the other day with a group of people, concerning pursuit and its relevance to love. Think about the things, which you love and how much time have you invested? Do you love your girlfriend/boyfriend, and are you pursuing more or less? How about: hobbies, your job, education, the latest trends, or becoming popular? I almost forgot: what about money?
What we pursue is what we love and what we love is who we are. As you walk this road of self-identification, you may find yourself pursuing the wrong things. What I have found to be so fascinating about our pursuit is how we are not guaranteed anything in our pursuit. Your goal may be to be the best salesperson in your company, but while this is a noble goal, you are not guaranteed to achieve it. Another person may have their eye on an incredibly sexy man or woman they want to date. Unfortunately, they too are not guaranteed anything in their pursuit.
Every day I drive by high schools with thousands of kids who are actively pursuing a life of football, baseball, basketball or soccer. I too, remember how hard they must practice, how big they dream and how bad they want to become the best. These kids work all hours of the day and will do anything to move to the next level of their respective sport. Unfortunately, even as hungry as they are, they are not guaranteed anything. How interesting is this thought? We can pursue all we want, whatever we want, as hard as we want and still… we are not guaranteed to achieve it.
Matthew 6:33 – Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. NLT
Great verse, which comes to a critical point for humans to grab onto. Here in Matthew, we not only have basic instructions but are granted a guarantee.
I am beginning a new section in each post to better correlate the post to church culture. This is to raise our awareness of why we do what we do. I hope you see that the intent of these questions is to take a step back and observe patterns. Your patterns and metrics may be right on target, if so then please don’t read the simmering questions below.

Love it. I think we also end up in pursuit of things that aren’t true desires of who we are at the core. Instead we end up chasing to be “someone” or “something”, and in the mix, we lose what we should be pursuing. Great post.
