Your Very Own M16
I am going to lay it out hot, bluntly and with a smoky, minty flavor. This post will deal with Marine equipment, and how it correlates with our daily lives. This post is also a fraction of a message I did at our Saturday Night gathering, so if you aren’t in to all that, go read someone elses blog.
A US Marine is one of the most skilled artists of war the earth has seen. Marines are trained in the harshest and most challenging conditions for one purpose: to protect and advance freedom. They are trained to understand strategy, equipment, and loyalty to their fellow Marine’s. Whether most of us realize this or not, we are breathing because of a Marine who was tactical trained in the art of war. Are you tactically trained in the war for your soul?
Do you know your equipment?
I sat down recently with a Marine to discuss his equipment while in the field. We had a lengthy discussion concerning each item, packed in his giant pack. We went on to discuss why each item was packed and how significant its position is when packed. Each Marine packs his pack the same in case another Marine (while in the field – or in battle) needs to locate an item. It is in these moments when milliseconds – literally – can decide life or death.
What monthly, weekly, daily or hourly assessments are you making to ensure the protection of your soul and the souls around you?
Marines are instructed from day 1 to understand the functionality of their weapon backward and forward. Eyes open, eyes closed, right handed, left handed and who knows, maybe even throw an arm behind the backs for kicks. The M16 they hold at any given point could be the key to their last breathe. Read below concerning the weapons God has given to us and think to yourself how tactically trained you are at each.
Ephesians 6:10-19 :: Armor
A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. 13Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.Do you think you know your weapons as well as you imagined? I watched this clip from Blackhawk Down, which outlines key elements to Marines: their movements, knowledge of weapons and advancing as a unit in hostile situations. If you take some time and read through this passage of text, I think you will begin to see: the battles you are facing may not appear how you first imagined them.
