What’s the difference between Porn and Food?

Ok, so let’s lay it out plain and simple and see how many people get pissed off. If your overweight because of health issues this is not about you. This is for the rest of you dirt bags who think your life is awesome, and it’s probably not. How do you explain the difference between someone who is overweight and another who stares at porn every chance he/she gets?

Over eating in America is our BUBONIC PLAGUE. Children contract diabetes at an alarming rate. New television shows such as Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution are pinpointing areas of a word we hate to hear … gluttony. Just typing the word and I am reminded of the scene from 7 when a man was murdered by eating himself to death. Have we thought about what is on our fork as much as we think about what our mouse hovers over? dummm dummm dummmm!!!!

Porn, porn, porn, porn, porn is all you seem to hear about. Apple is now convincing the world they are building porn free computers/browsers as a key selling feature. Soft porn, hard porn, is there medium porn? If there is, I am sure someone has raked in millions from the idea of it. Nevertheless, we are living in a giant world of porn.

The thing with porn is that most people who have some bits of religion in them realize that porn is not the best thing for em. If you’re saying you know people who don’t think porn is wrong then I would ask them the “mother question or gramma question“.

One of the best questions to ask individuals who candidly don’t give a #### about the world is in a hypothetical “mother or gramma question“.  It goes like this, John would you watch these 5 Asian girls getting pulverized by 10 different guys, moaning and yelling the F world loudly in front of your mom or gramma?”

You see the reason why this question is perfect is because if they say yes, then they are admitting it is wrong. If they say no, then you truly know this person is one of the sickest and most disgusting human beings on the planet. Seriously, who would watch that in front of their mother or gramma? They should seek help or write me a long response below in 1000 words or less how watching hard core porn with their mom or gramma is awesome.

Now to our second dilemma. The Fatness! I am not talking about it in a cool way, I am referring to fatness as horrible stewardship over our bodies. For the record, this is the same body that is created in the image and likeness of God. America – is – The – Fatness! Now, you can blame all of the fast food and amazingly tasting foods created by chemicals all you want but you still have to answer to that gut that looks like it is talking to me right now.

I am the first to tell you that I absolutely love food. I am not even sure sometimes if I like a certain destination or the food at the destination … I am just not sure. I recently told my dad I would fly all the way to India for Indian food. Seriously, I dig Indian food THAT much. 30 hours in a plane for the real deal tandoori chicken … Yes, I am in!! What can I say, I have been raised to appreciate flavors, food and the company it carries.

I hate running, working out and all of that but every time I do it, I love the feeling afterward. Where is the balance to what you are consuming. If you are polishing off 4000 calories a day only to polish it off with 3 hours of television and some more sugar, what have you become? If stress is making you eat more than pray then what kind of God do you believe in?

Jesus prays the infamous Lord’s prayer and says, Give us this day our daily bread. He doesn’t say, gimme a #6 supersized with a diet coke and when I get home I’ll crush another 2500 calories too. In addition, Jesus walked everywhere he went, even on the sea of Galilee. We walk maybe … maybe just maybe to our mailbox to scoop up our mail and even sometimes we choose to drive.

One man stares, lusting, fantasizing and imagining doing things with women/men/boys/girls that would make his own mother cut his penis off. The other can be found eating just a little bit more, sleeping a little bit more, laying on the couch a little bit more, playing video games a little bit more till his once firm abs metamorphosis to a barrel of jelly. His energy levels are non existent and he believes like many others that this is what happens as age sneaks upon you.

Are we judging the hell out of the porn addict and giving grace to the fat man? How come we judge so well that porn is evil but can’t get our head around the fat in the man being sinful? So………. , is there a difference between porn and gluttony? Follow @Holaratcha daily grenades in Twitosphere.

The only difference is you cannot hide the fat but you can hide the Porn.

first of all i would like to say im not overweight, and i am a believer but i find your post disturbing. i get the point sin is sin, irellevant of what the sin is, but to compare overeating to a man/woman who is perveted. quite frankely disgust me. im sorry you feel the way you do.
i also would like to know what crowd and what kind role model youre trying to be by using the analogies and f# or ### you use in your post. i just dont see how in leadership this can be justified.

megan: it appears from your remarks that you are saying there is levels of sin? are you implying one sin is greater than another?

Holy holy someone said it! Thank you. Let’s also throw in vanity along with loads of others into the mix. The church crucifies alcoholics, weed smokers, those who curse, gays, ect. But they glorify you if you have a nice tan and a boob job. Keep on pointing this stuff out my friend…..I love when truth pisses people off. I’m glad you choose to question rather than accept the religion in a box that has been handed to you.

Anthony, I don’t get …… where you get the time do this and what’s your point is?…..spend more of your free time watching porn.we don’t care.wow, you must really feel guilty about something!

    06.23.2010

hmmmm, what is the point? That’s a tough question because if you read the entire post, it is pretty clear the distinction between lust and gluttony. Unless of course you believe certain biblical matters classified as sin are measured differently by God? Similar to a point system?

  7. megan mckillip

    06.23.2010

no, im not saying that at all. if you read my comment entirely. you would see i understand sin is sin. my question to you is how far is to far??…. making a point,ok.but hurting someones feelings to make that point.not ok.(and i don’t mean the porn people)

  8. raquel

    06.24.2010

well anthony i really just get why it would even be a thought in your mind to compare the two sin or no sin being obese or molesting a child are to pretty different sins to me… if you dont agree with that you are a pretty sick and twisted person… that is all.

  9. holaratcha

    06.24.2010

raquel: you are very right when you state molesting and obesity are different. can you explain to me where the Bible has different levels of sin?

Can you explain the level system you are referring to?

  10. megan

    06.24.2010

raquel: i understand your point on why would he use obesity and porn as an example?….anthony: i really would like an explanation to why you had to use such an extreme example?…..and also in response to your question it says in the bible that we will all be judged accordingly .

  11. holaratcha

    06.24.2010

megan: we will be judged accordingly, very true. Paul writes in Romans that we are to present our bodies a living and holy sacrifice pleasing to the Lord, Romans 12:1-2

I Cor 3:16-17 states the the spirit of God lives in you, you are his temple and will be destroyed if you destroy his temple (paraphrase NLT)

In retrospect, I used porn and food to garner peoples attention as to what our minds find tolerable and detestable. Most would admit they find porn, molestation detestable, while overeating, gluttony to be ok or stress relievers.

Whether we like it or not, sin is sin, there is no beautiful stockings we can put on it to make it look pretty.

The dirtbag peddling 13 year olds in Thailand is being used by satan and producing exponential sin. While the man/woman who has had a long day/stress day/frustrating day and eats too much and exercises too less is cooperating with sin.

Do you have anything to add? I trust these remarks make some sort of sense … thx in advance for your thoughts and questions, i truly value them.

Wait a minute, so the measuring stick by which you can determine if an act is a sin or wrong is whether or not you can do it with your grandmother in the room? I don’t change into my goalie equipment, use the toilet, or have sex with my wife doggie style (or any other style, for that matter) in front of my grandmother, so are all those sins as well?

Porn, like food (and almost anything else in life), can be a perfectly normal part of a healthy lifestyle, but overconsumption can lead to problems.

Anyways, I appreciate you providing an almost flawless example of the fallacy of the excluded middle. Thanks!

  13. holaratcha

    06.25.2010

sinned34: great point. i don’t smash with gramma in the room either. i guess then the area in question is whether or not lust is considered sinful? or hypothetically … what if it was your daughter some guy/girl was rubbin one out to? would that change your mind about porn?

  14. sinned34

    06.27.2010

Holaratcha: is lust considered sinful? By some people, yes; by others, not so much; and a few people might even consider it a virtue. However, to follow your hypothetical, if my daughter decided to go into porn, I’d do my best to make sure she’s aware of the risks and detriments to such a career choice. The thought of people masturbating to her wouldn’t really bother me, especially since that’s entirely possible to happen even if she doesn’t go into porn. All that’s required is that somebody finds her attractive and has an “active” imagination.
I don’t think an emotional or personal reaction to something is necessarily grounds to consider that action bad, or try to stop people from performing said action.
The point to me is that we all do things that are either necessary to life or for personal pleasure that we’d rather not be present to watch other people do. So long as those acts are performed willingly and do not injure others, I couldn’t care less if people do them.

Yes, there’s a difference, according to the Word, and it’s not a matter of mortal or venial sins (I was a Catholic for 33 years), or ranking, but I think it’s about some nasty quality defilement– the Word says when you join yourself to a prostitute/whore/(porn star), you become one-flesh with them, and you’re sinning against your own body. It never says that about food, does it? Don’t get me wrong, I’m a seasoned, rather radical nutritionist, but the heart issues are different I believe–not a good comparison.
I also believe the ***** implications and penis innuendos are rather unnecessary, unless you are dealing with a really sick generation of kids. Hey, let’s expect better things of them! So much shock effect doesn’t become a minister of the Word, no matter how cool. And why stoop to their level? Well, that’s just a thought.

Also, SOUL TIES are formed with people.

  18. Joel

    06.30.2010

Hey i correct me if i’m wrong, although there is a corelation between gluttony and obesity, being obese isn’t sinful, gluttony is! Obesity could either be a result of gluttony carried down through generations as general curses(or what science tells us about genetic obesity), or it could be a result of gluttony triggered by the individual him/herself.
Remember gluttony means excessive and compulsive eating, as opposed to enjoying food. Hence unless the person is losing control of his urge to eat, i wouldn’t call it gluttony. God meant for us to enjoy food as a luxury just as sex between a couple, but it would only be considered sin if we pervert and pursue gluttony and porn instead of what is was beautifully purposed for us.

  19. holaratcha

    06.30.2010

joel: please note opening sentence, “if your overweight because of health issues this is not about you”.

I appreciate your zealousness for food as my wife and I are much the same. I even at times have to put myself in check and evaluate if we are putting too much emphasis on food. A good fast and prayer from time to time is a good anecdote to reconnect and engage with Christ.

    06.30.2010

JaneHilt: appreciate your thoughts on my crude writing style at times. The people I run into are crude as majority of this world is. I write in a different style, it may be offensive to some, it may be engaging to others. I wish I could say it was engaging to all. Unfortunately, only a few people will enjoy what I write but they will know that it was real. My purpose and goal is never to offend or give “shock value”. These are the words and understandings of my generation .. call it sick, distorted or degrading … i dunno, but it makes sense to me.

We aren’t commanded to judge anyone.. so we must have grace for the porn addict and the food addict and help them to break out of them, together with the Holy Spirit’s help if that is something they want to do.

Our culture is so blind and numb to sin that we fail to see that sin lies within. I do not need a computer, tv, or magazine to engage in porn. All it takes is walking into a mall and seeing a younger woman dressed to the tens with the intent to seduce with stockings and short dress and immediately the lust spills forth as you turn to your wife and try your best to pretend you are not melting inside. Or maybe it is the woman in church with the brilliant smile and glistening hair that sparkles as the sun shines through the church window, smelling like the prettiest flower. Maybe it is that woman, as we stand to sing praises to our Lord that our eyes are drawn to, as her pants reveal so clearly her butt and draw our eyes away and into lust. No man needs a tv, computer or magazine to engage in porn, it is a lust that is in the world, in the workplace, and even in the church. Yes men, closer they are to God, the more they hide it and try their best to pretend that it is not there, but it is. The answer to this lustfulness is self control. The original post is right on the money. The lust for food is no different. Food is all around us to tempt us, television shows are there to steal our precious time and mislead us, and as with fornication we are to flee these by exercising self-control. Fasting has so much under estimated value in itself because it teaches us to deny our body and exercise control over our flesh. Yeah my flesh is hungry but yet I will not eat to buffet my body and bring it into subjection. In closing remember the next time you step out into the world, not only will you enter a world of soft porn and sexual temptations at every turn, but also a world that seeks to appeal to your flesh whether it be via gluttony, coveteousness, or self righteous pride. We are in the world , but not of the world. Say no to drugs, say no to alcohol, say no to sex outside of marriage, say no to food that is exercising Lordship over you, say no to companions that are infidels/unbelievers, say no television, say no to anything that does not glorify our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To quote the Good Book “What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Dennis – THANK YOU. It’s time we start believing all that the Bible is saying instead of taking just the bits and pieces we are comfortable with, that make our lifestyle choices sound holy…it isn’t about what others say, it is about what God says and if you aren’t willing to listen to His voice telling you, ‘hey, that’s not good for you’ then you are lying not just to yourself but everyone else. We all know we have a ‘conscience’ which is God’s pulpit in our hearts. You will be judged according to how well you listen. We are all given the ability to listen to God’s voice so there is no excuse. You want to get offended because someone is speaking in a way that you don’t find ‘churchy’, try understanding the fruits first before you think you have the right to judge. The author of this blog isn’t speaking to those who have already seen, but to those who still do not (sadly, that includes many in the church) and if all it takes is a reference to a “**%!!” to close your ears to the truth, then you are no better than the Pharisees were to Jesus. His words were just as offensive.

About gramma…let’s look at it this way. She represents wisdom and authority, someone you respect and want to respect you…forget her being in the room with you but would you tell her you were into a bunch of porn and still stand there proud or would you prefer not to mention it? If you made love to your wife, would you share it proudly because you had a child as a result of that love? There is a clear difference between the two ideas and what happens when our hidden things are put in the light. Porn is not healthy for any relationship of merit. It is lust unbridled and has nothing to do with love. Any man that tells himself he wants to be that man in the video and his wife to play the role of the woman in it, has just reduced his wife to a wet dream and of no value greater than his sexual pleasure. She’s no different than a condom. A means to an end of self gratification. Loving relationship? How? Most of the time, this picture is not even between a husband and wife but just between two entities (or more) that want sexual gratification. It is about domination and control. Taking, not giving. NOT LOVE. God’s covenant between man and woman was designed with Him at the center, and you’d defend this with God in the room? Forget gramma…God IS IN THE ROOM. What makes porn, porn? Why do we make the distinction if we don’t already admit it is another category entirely? It is lust, for something you are not supposed to indulge in because of where it takes you…lust has nothing to do with purity or the things of God. Don’t pretend you don’t know this. Go ahead Adam. Justify yourself. Pretend God can’t see you.

And regarding the analogy of the abuse of our body/food/drugs/sex..etc… it is totally on point. Let’s get a clue people. Abusing the temple is abuse whether you feed yourself through your thoughts, your eyes, your ears, your mouth, your skin, your…… fill in the blank. We don’t have the authority or right to decide the threshold of our resistance yet pride would say we do- but, it is God who speaks in us to guide us away from the danger zone. LISTEN to the ONE that loves you. Feed on the Word. Seek first to understand and you will find the wisdom needed to choose what is right and the boldness to do it. We are given armor for every part of our body, so let’s not be naive, let’s use it “accordingly”.

VMODE, thanks for writing, I check in every now and than to see if this reaching anyone and by God’s grace use whatever value is in this to His glory. I am greatly encourage by your response and have read it through twice and am filled with joy to have found another brother likeminded. It can be so lonely at times speaking forth His Word and see no fruit nor harvest, but then someone comes forth to relight the fire and to prove as always the work of the Lord is never in vain. So thank you for taking to time to add your thoughts. A reminder to all that come across these little messages to meditiate daily upon His Holy Word and to cherish it more than your necessary fleshly food always keepin gin mind that the Lord is faithful and will reward those that diligently seek Him.

Man Athomp i love the response that a topic like this brings up. I know this is an older one but i’m just reading it now. It is truly amazing to see just how taboo speaking of porn or even just sex has become in the “Christian” community. Just the mention of it and people lose focus even of what the point was to begin with. Just the word porno is like this giant red flag in their face which blinds them to the actual brilliant comparison that is being made here.

Do you really feel offended by his words readers? then how does it feel when God tells us that on our best day, on our most perfect and righteous day, our righteousness is like filthy rags………wait thats the KJ translation putting it nicely because the original meaning of that is basically a woman’s menstrual pad or tampon. Yup its in the bible, look it up and research the etymology of that verse. Now am i saying this to be a smart ###? No. Plain and simple sometimes things need to be said straight forward and without watering down.

Sin is sin without levels or amounts or any type of quantification. I dont believe that this blog was about comparing one sin to another in quality of sin or quantity of sin because there is ZERO DIFF from one sin to another. Its also not about what is sin to someone else may or may not be sin to another. Im very sorry to tell you but sin isnt about perspective, sin isnt relevant in different ways to different people and in different areas of the world. Sin is what God has said it is and thats that, whether you agree with it or not. Thats like saying well im ok with killing people so its not a sin and or wrong and if you think it is a sin well thats fine cause thats your opinion. Well that argument wont even hold up in court let alone in heaven. This is about awakening people the the gravity of what they are doing to their bodies. Its about understanding that just like you may look at a porn fiend like a monster and judge and be repulsed then in turn you should also look at someone who is a glutton in that manner. I think that if you take this blog and think “if i was to look at ALL sin like i look at porn or whatever sin it is that you consider the worst thing in your opinion then maybe you would gain a deeper realer understanding of God’s perspective of sin and gain the strength to stop doing things you know are wrong but cant. God i always say im going to makemy posts short lol. Point being read the blog for what it is trying to educate you in at its most fundamental point and understand that just like Jesus came and hung out with the sinners and the rejects and not the religious, “know it all” pharisee folk, Websites like these are amazing tools at not only educating and stimulating the minds of Christians but getting someone who doesnt go to church on sunday and monday night bible school and wed prayer meeting and friday night youth camp and blah blah blah to open up to something they didnt understand or even give importance to in their life to begin with. It relates to their language and relates to the straight up in your face lifestyle that our society is used to. Paul put it best when he said “to the romans i was a roman and to the barbarians i was a barbarian and to the Greeks i was a Greek.” Meaning relate to those around you! don’t alienate those around you with your religion and wisdom and righteousness. Anyway that’s my 2 cents or maybe dime piece!
