3 Reasons WHY we Hate Prayer but LOVE the iPhone 4
I woke up this morning with zero apprehension concerning this iphone 4 epidemic (Wired News). I did wake up to drive to the local Cadillac dealer to have a recall (heated washer fluid system HWFS) fixed. As I approached the Rizza Cadillac service entrance at 8:05am I was pleasantly surprised with the long line of cars ahead of me.
For a second I thought Cadillac was giving away the Iphone 4 with all cars requiring maintenance today. This would make more sense as GM attempts to lure ANY new customers. By the way, the service department here is #Fail. Atrocious, which is why for a split second I thought Rizza would pull an amazing iPhone 4 stunt.
We all know the iPhone 4 is going to save our lives from all evil and calamities which is why people line up at un-Godly hours to get their dirty little finger prints all over it. It now has the clearest screen in all of the world (Steve Jobs quote), faster, better camera pix-elation and a gazillion new apps.
Apple has scored another point for them and created a partnership between nerds and influencers again. For those mini seconds, a complete nerd can look into the eyes of a global tastemaker mogul and feel acceptance. A – SPLIT – SECOND … I am not warranting any more than that.
I made an analogy of a mobile phone the other night in correlation with prayer. It seems many of us, myself included, do not find any time to pray. (I realized this a while back and after discussions with personal mentors, a new prayer campaign was launched.) After trying to figure out why people do not pray, I thought more like Steve Jobs and his team at Apple. What if prayer was easier? What if prayer actually worked?
Prayer for me rarely produced results. If you are one of the thousands in line picking up your iPhone 4, you are exchanging your precious time today because this iPhone 4 is supposed to produce results. It is supposed to skype your friends in Australia, it is supposed to have wicked clear screen resolution, it is supposed to have a faster processor and easier to use operating system. You expect for this little device to make your world easier, more efficient and produce rapid results.
Many of us hate prayer due to preconceived ideas concerning prayer. Prayer for many is reserved for the preachers, pastors, evangelists, moms, dads, old people, ribbon dancers, tambourine players and priests. When we try to use this life changing resource to dial God we receive a response like this: “We’re sorry, your call cannot be completed as dialed, please check the number and dial again, error code 48796.“
Try using the same methods for obtaining your iPhone 4 as you would in your prayer life.
1. Expect
When you pray expect for your prayer to be answered. Exchange this vague word of Faith to Expect and run with it! Expect for something good to happen in your life. Expect for you to meet a venture capitalist to fund your next million dollar idea. Expect to meet with God and hear what he has for your life. Expect visions and dreams like Joseph and Daniel. (Bible verses James 1:6-7, Daniel 2, Genesis 37, Hebrews 11)
2. Patience
I watched thousands of people on the news and internet today wait in line for days and hours to receive an iPhone 4. Days and hours for this life changing device. What kind of consistency and patience are you grafting into your prayer life? Check out the parable of the unjust judge/widow in Luke 18. Are you seeking and waiting on God as long as you are waiting in that frickin’ iPhone 4 line?
3. Cost
Prayer is going to cost you something. Your iPhone 4 is gonna hit you in the mouth for $199 + your At&t monthly contract. Most of us easily pay these fees and never think twice about any congruency regarding these issues. Prayer may cost you some daily sleep time, television time, internet time, sports time, smokin weed time or working out time. If you want answered prayers and bring the Bible to God and say “Why is this mountain not moving in my life (Mark 11:23-24)?” Then you are going to have to exchange some time playah!
After you buy your iPhone 4, use it to help you in prayer. Make sure you pick up YouVersion and get on a Bible reading plan. Use Evernote to take notes when you are praying, in church or at home putting your vision/dreams down.
