The Leak

It’s funny how the stories that matter most to you are your own. Your most significant life moments are cherished most by you. When someone mentions they fractured a bone in their body your mind conjures  the details of when you did something similar. A friend tells you about their holiday in Hawaii and you blurt out your favorite restaurant and beach. You hear someone say, “I hate church” and you respond, “ditto” and proceed with a tragic church memory.

I mention this because of something which I have wanted to do based on my story. My story being one of red carpets, flashing lights, beautiful people and endless nights. My story is the guy strolling out of the club with his head high, grin-stamped face, green in his pocket facing another endless night. He knows where this endless night will take him, yet he doesn’t have the ability to change his course. He is captured and kidnapped for another go.

These nights like many are scheduled to conclude at 2am but never do. These nights are supposed to be fun with friends, bobbin heads, waiving hands and stompin’ on couches. These nights are what everyone does. These nights are what everyone says is normal. These nights crack with explosive excitement. These are the nights where we feel most alive right?

What’s crazy is how this jar of excitement has a slow leak. Where and how did THE LEAK come about and why can we never clog it?

Each time out you attempt to outdo the next but THE LEAK will not allow it. Even when you score an amazing night, you never seem to return or exceed that feeling, that high, that burst, that boom, that superstar status. You tell yourself it was the most amazing night but in your heart you know there was better nights. Each time you try to figure out how to plug up THE LEAK but you don’t. It feels you have in fact outdone yourself. You have reached the ultimate superstar status moment. So now what?

The reality is you know what you’re supposed to do. If you don’t know what your supposed to do then read through this post (Solomon, Stoicism + You). Maybe this will stir your think tank.
