The Re Education of Society

How many of us can shut off…literally?  Turn off our mobile phones, computers, twitterland, televisions and ipods and listen to the empty hallways of our brain. What sort of activity is happening inside these hallways that we miss? What is really going on in our brain? Have we become overly occupied, chasing tweets and status updates? I recently came across an incredible blog – which many of you may know of – but rolled into my lap like the most perfect, virtual fortune cookie.  Read the rest of this entry »

3 Reasons Twitter SucksPosted by holaratcha in jesus stuff, twitter On Jun 19th, 2009

No mystery why users all over the world either love Twitter or hate it. Church marketing and communications around the globe have embraced this little birdy “tweet” sensation called “twitter” and is now the new God of technology. Email is the 90′s bag phone and a mobile phone is now …..well….. just as common as plastic surgery. Has church marketing and the influence of Jesus been affected?

Let’s keep this madness simple. As we looked before in St. John (4:4-38), Jesus was an expert socialite… I mean, who rocks up to a complete stranger who is hated by your culture {jews vs samaritans} and engages conversation? Who – does – that? Last time I checked you can find those people either fueled by a plant called cocaine or over exercising their usage of of alcohol…. but anyway… Jesus did that… no hesitations, no…… is this person going to think I am weird, no…… do I need to hand them a track and tell them about my church… Just stone cold conversation.  :: Stunning ::

So now you say, but why would you write 3 Reasons Twitter Sucks and rant on something irrelevant? aaaaaaaaaaahhhh, I say…. not to worry… let us march on toward the rantification of Twitter and its new relationship with Christianity.

Twitter is replacing socialization. With only 140 characters, we have limited time and space to engage in someone’s life. If Jesus utilized Twitter, chances are he wouldn’t have taken the time to sit down and become genuinely interested in another person.  Are we becoming genuinely interested in other people?

Twitter is built on the ME focus. What am I doing, what am I writing about, Why I am cool and look at how many “followers” I have…. How many “followers” do you have? What is your strategy on Twitter and more importantly your Kingdom Focus?

Twitter is the ultimate FAKE FRIEND civilization. Do you really think @miamiweirdo @pastorsoandso or @jesusIstheWay really care about what you are doing and want to know more about it?  Do you really believe people are genuinely interested in helping each others church, ministry, band, new product…..orrrrrrrrrr…..  is it “i scratch your back, you scratch mine?”

Look, let’s be honest … I am not saying everyone is abusing Twitter, or everyone is out to manipulate and garner global status…. what I am asking is… are you abusing Twitter?  What is YOUR angle at this monster machine?  Lets check our own hearts and actions before we go and pound out the next 140 characters?

Can we build stronger relationships through Twitter… Yes.  Can we engage our church community utilizing Twitter…. Sure we can.  Can we brand Jesus better through effective implementation of technology…. YES YES YES YES YES…  Ask yourself if you are in bed with Twitter for the wrong reason… We must continually check our motives for all our actions, not in a negative disassemble mode but in continual reconstruction of our soul.

Load up your gun and start firing ::: interested to hear how much I suck because I called out Twitter… This should be fun.  Cheers all.
