Ladies and gentlemen, we have just landed on the moon (or walked on water).

Have you ever stumbled upon greatness? Have you ever received an idea that will rip apart the fabric of society and human existence and push us forward into the next generation of thinking? I have.

You see, God is not just good; he is flat-out ridiculous – ridic, as the cool kids say it. All praise be to Him. All the events leading up to the moment (ruining the Outlaw Preacher timeline trying to promote Pornographic Preacher (by far my most popular post), being reported as spam, getting talked to by @pastornar, being taught Tweetdeck and Twitter etiquette (thanks @sleepthatkills) hashtags and keyword timelines, and seeing the life-changing tweet) seemed random at the time but turned out to be all part of God’s plan.

Twitter Evangelism is exactly that. You simply evangelize through Twitter. How? I’m glad you asked.

Getting Started

Essentially all you need is a Twitter account and, preferably, a Tweetdeck or something similar. Simply add columns on your Tweetdeck with keywords (Christianity, church, Jesus, religion, etc.). If you are using Twitter, just search these words and see what tweets pop up.

Look at the tweets and try to find people sounding discouraged about their faith, struggling with sin, or believing something contrary to the Word. Give them a no-string-attached reply to ignite a conversation. Then, allow them to decide to respond. Do not, under any circumstances, badger!

Implementation

From there, evangelize like you would at the mall or on the street. Be affable, yet stern and Biblically sound. Don’t give your opinion, give the Word in a way that is extremely basic and simple. An opinion is so subjective but a Scripture delivered effectively can make the difference of eternal life.

Every person has a confrontational side of them, especially when Christianity is involved. Don’t let that side get the best of you. If a conversation starts, set your foundation for the subject and then communicate to them how much God loves them and how much they mean to Him. Then, now that they have a softer heart, share the Truth in love. Also, make sure you have your Bible at hand as you want to be as accurate as possible. In addition, add personal stories and experiences to bring the message closer to home and meet them where they are.

Warning

Simple, I know, but unbelievably powerful. Yet, this undertaking is not for the spiritually weak. Only mature, on-fire Christians spending considerable time in the Word and prayer should take this up. I for one will be doing this sparingly if at all. The reason: giving must be done out of your abundance to be truly effective (1 Corinthians 9:27). Otherwise, you are a pounding gong or a clanging symbol from (1 Corinthians 13:1).

Go!

So get on it! Add this to your forms of evangelism; don’t use this as a replacement. Keep in mind this method is not fool proof and people can be up to there same tricks in no time. However, this is a way for leaders in the body of Christ to take back souls for the Kingdom in a way that is mutually amicable. People appreciate an outside voice and often them not knowing you makes them more open. Others close to them may have tried but good news from far away is sweet to the soul. You may be able to minister to someone in a way no one has ministered to them before. So stalk and prey lest they fall into condemnation.

How many of us can shut off…literally? Turn off our mobile phones, computers, twitterland, televisions and ipods and listen to the empty hallways of our brain. What sort of activity is happening inside these hallways that we miss? What is really going on in our brain? Have we become overly occupied, chasing tweets and status updates? I recently came across an incredible blog – which many of you may know of – but rolled into my lap like the most perfect, virtual fortune cookie.
This site came pretty highly recommended and since I am an online adventurer, I thought to myself, I might as well give this a shot. After reading a bit of the post below, I had a Matrix Keanu Reeves moment… not Neo. Literally, a Keanu moment and said, “Whoaaaaaa.” I was even watching my own reflection in the glass window as I said it, so it appeared in slow motion. Yes, that – really – happened. This was more of the Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure Keanu moment… can you remember way back then?

Read below and maybe you can use a bit of this in your daily life to help calm the waves of overly multi tasking.

Excerpt from www.ZenHabits.com, written by Leo Babauta

It’s a bias of our culture that stillness is regarded as lazy, as being stuck in inaction, as a negative. It’s not. It’s an action, and a powerful one. What’s more, it can change your day, and in doing so change your life. You’re in the middle of a frazzled day, swamped by work and meetings and emails and interruptions, or hassled by kids and phone calls and errands and chores.
You pause. Stay still for a minute, and breathe. You close your eyes, and find a stillness within yourself. This stillness spreads to the rest of your body, and to your mind. It calms you, centers you, focuses you on what you’re doing right now, not on all you have to do and all that has happened.

Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”

Not gonna lie, totally guilty of having too much happening, and – for- no – apparent – reason. Laptop turns on, television turns on, obviously have to switch my mobile on to control my music in the house… thanks to the Apple Remote App. We juggle multiple projects during the day, on our phone, computer and in our personal life. How – can – this – be – good?

I recently heard a friend tell me: don’t focus so much on my to do list but rather on my to don’t list. Clarify by exclusion.v If it doesn’t fit in your plan of attack… then it’s out. O – U – T.

No mystery why users all over the world either love Twitter or hate it. Church marketing and communications around the globe have embraced this little birdy “tweet” sensation called “twitter” and is now the new God of technology. Email is the 90′s bag phone and a mobile phone is now …..well….. just as common as plastic surgery. Has church marketing and the influence of Jesus been affected?

Let’s keep this madness simple. As we looked before in St. John (4:4-38), Jesus was an expert socialite… I mean, who rocks up to a complete stranger who is hated by your culture {jews vs samaritans} and engages conversation? Who – does – that? Last time I checked you can find those people either fueled by a plant called cocaine or over exercising their usage of of alcohol…. but anyway… Jesus did that… no hesitations, no…… is this person going to think I am weird, no…… do I need to hand them a track and tell them about my church… Just stone cold conversation. :: Stunning ::

So now you say, but why would you write 3 Reasons Twitter Sucks and rant on something irrelevant? aaaaaaaaaaahhhh, I say…. not to worry… let us march on toward the rantification of Twitter and its new relationship with Christianity.

Twitter is replacing socialization. With only 140 characters, we have limited time and space to engage in someone’s life. If Jesus utilized Twitter, chances are he wouldn’t have taken the time to sit down and become genuinely interested in another person. Are we becoming genuinely interested in other people?

Twitter is built on the ME focus. What am I doing, what am I writing about, Why I am cool and look at how many “followers” I have…. How many “followers” do you have? What is your strategy on Twitter and more importantly your Kingdom Focus?

Twitter is the ultimate FAKE FRIEND civilization. Do you really think @miamiweirdo @pastorsoandso or @jesusIstheWay really care about what you are doing and want to know more about it? Do you really believe people are genuinely interested in helping each others church, ministry, band, new product…..orrrrrrrrrr….. is it “i scratch your back, you scratch mine?”

Look, let’s be honest … I am not saying everyone is abusing Twitter, or everyone is out to manipulate and garner global status…. what I am asking is… are you abusing Twitter? What is YOUR angle at this monster machine? Lets check our own hearts and actions before we go and pound out the next 140 characters?

Can we build stronger relationships through Twitter… Yes. Can we engage our church community utilizing Twitter…. Sure we can. Can we brand Jesus better through effective implementation of technology…. YES YES YES YES YES… Ask yourself if you are in bed with Twitter for the wrong reason… We must continually check our motives for all our actions, not in a negative disassemble mode but in continual reconstruction of our soul.
